DESCRIPTION
A complete sight of the protected Mediterranean agriculture, under plastic, in a 2 hectare farm in Almeria. A place where new technologies and innovative environmental techniques perfectly match with the traditional farming know-how.
CLISOL receives more than 13,000 national and international visitors annually: European primary and secondary schools and university students as well as worldwide tourists and professionals.
Lola Gomez and her team are committed to avoiding that visitors, either young or adult, lose their love of nature. So, they will teach you plenty of curiosities, to appreciate the value of sustainable farming and experience a world of forgotten or unknown sensations, such as the aroma of a fresh tomato, the explosion of colour in vegetables, the pollination of a flower by a bumblebee or the work of small bugs that parasitize insect pests, making the use of chemicals unnecessary.

The visit for schools is based on the pattern of the General Tour. It includes three workshops:

In season, CLISOL offers two additional workshops:

DID YOU KNOW…?
- The “Sea of Plastic” in Almería is the only human work that is clearly seen from space without having been built by an emperor or king, but by small farmers.
- Although protected agricuture has usually been considered as not being environmentally friendly, Clisol will show you that a greenhouse ensures the life-balance and welfare of the plants, using techniques such as the biological pest control, natural pollination and the total recycling of water and mineral salts.
- An average of 13 to 15 litres of water is needed to produce a tomato in a traditional orchard. In Clisol, just 5.5 litres.
- Over the past 25 years, the “albedo” factor has reduced the impact of global warming in Almeria. This reduction in the surrounding temperature is generated by the ‘mirror effect’ caused by the roofs of greenhouses on solar radiation (whitewashed to avoid heat, between April to September).
