Mining adventure, with authenticity and loads of fun
09258 PURAS DE VILLAFRANCA – BURGOS
Meeting point: Visitor Reception Centre in the village of Puras de Villafranca, next to the old washroom.
Welcome to the oldest manganese mine in Spain. And not just that: according to historical sources, the ore mined here was considered the purest in the world, compared to other mines in Spain, Germany, Sweden or France.
Dare to live firsthand a mining experience from the mid-nineteenth century (mining here continued until 1965). Find out what the miners’ work was like, about their tools, the industrial processes and infrastructure (galleries, mineral washings, the turbine for generating electricity, the offices etc.).
Your tour begins at the Visitor Reception Centre in the village, where you should arrive at least 5 minutes before the confirmed visit time to pick up your entry tickets.
From that moment on, we guarantee you a 100% enjoyable experience, designed and adapted for all participants, full of emotions, curiosities, technical experiments and a surprise now and again.
In each of the two visitable mines, you can go along about 200 metres of galleries, preserved in perfect condition, just as when mining activities ceased, and which are fitted with lighting. You can observe many remains of the mining activities, such as timbering, anchors, wells, bore marks, cave-ins, vaults formed by blasting explosions, and visible veins of manganese.
PRICE PER PERSON
GENERAL RATE: € 5
SCHOOL GROUP RATE: € 4

For the more adventurous, we suggest a caving experience, or climbing or via ferrata (iron path; protected rock-climbing routes). Are you ready to venture into the Cave of Fuentemolinos, the 5th largest limestone cave in the world? To take part, all you need is the desire to do so; no special fitness or ability is required. An expert team of guides offers you a tour that is exciting, but absolutely safe.
For the whole family, or for those who seek relaxation in the countryside, our suggestion is a guided walk through the beech woods and riverside forests nearby, or bird watching.
Additionally, we have some really original ideas for corporate incentive programmes, linked to the mines and their surroundings.
